FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS.

General questions.

4 Wall Showroom - what kind of name is that?
The Showroom is the very heart of the game premise. The Muses have brought your character to Mousai for one reason only: To create the beauty that they themselves and their planet can't produce on their own. Thus, all characters are accommodated witin the Museum premises - a large, marble building in the middle of the capital - where they are granted an apartment on the upper floors to live in and a "showroom" in the Museum downstairs to use for the weekly exhibitions. This room is nothing but four bare, white walls... Until your talents make something of it.

Who are the moderators of the game?
Currently, there is only one "real" mod, S. However, to ensure that things run as smoothly as possible, sometimes K. pinches in as well. Thank you, K.!

Applicable characters.

What kind of characters can I join with?
This game is OC-only, but this also includes canon/fandom OCs. Canon characters, however, are not acceptable.

Does my character have to be human?
No, they do not, but bearing in mind why the Muses choose them, they have to possess some sort of artistic talent, craft or ability.

Activity and activity checks.

When do you do activity checks?
Once a week, on Sundays when the theme for the following week's exhibition is revealed. It is a simple count of which characters did and didn't partake in the exhibition. Names of inactive characters will be posted and players given the chance to accept the challenge of having them exhibit the following week.

What happens if I know I can't make activity check?
Just let us know before Monday and make it up the following week by posting to the exhibition log thread then.

Important: No need to worry, we are generally very chill about these things.

How many characters can I join with?
Preferably, only one at a time. It's easier putting some TLC and dedication into a character, if you aren't juggling ten other balls in the air at the same time, after all.

World questions.

How does my character get here?
The Muses ([personal profile] mousai) once upon a time decided to begin importing people from other planets, worlds and dimensions to bring beauty to their planet. They call their imports "Inspirations" and force them to exhibit at the Museum once a week, based on a theme or concept of their choosing.

When your character wakes up, they find themselves in a white, marble room with four bare walls. Congratulations, you have found your new Showroom! Next to them, they will find a hand-written note that reads: Welcome to Mousai. You are an Inspiration to us all - along with a key to one of the first- or second-floor apartments. Once they begin exploring the city, Mousai's capital - Melete, they will be greeted by muted, dusty yellow colours and ancient Greek and Roman architecture with columns and statues everywhere. The Mousai people themselves look like moving statues, pale and much taller than the average human.

The Museum, where your character lives, is the only exception to this landscape. It is a tall, imposing building in white, shining marble - the architecture seemingly a mix of new and old.

How does my character communicate with everyone else?
Upon arrival, along with the note and the key, your character will receive a phone, similar in style to what was popular on Earth in the early 2000s. Thus, it has all the basic functions of such a device - you can call someone (audio), text someone (text), but not make video broadcasts. If you want to see the person you're talking to, why not meet them in the hallways or the common room?

What kind of effects does Mousai have on my character?
The Muses use the energy created from their Inspirations' creative endearvours to regenerate the planet and expand upon the landscape. As such, every month or so, a new attraction (it could be everything from a new park to a stunning building from another world) will appear in Melete, breaking with the dust and the yellow tones. However, being drained from their creative juices in this manner, takes its toll. The longer your character stays in Mousai, the more drained they will feel - creatively, physically - until they are no longer able to produce exhibitions at the pace demanded. At this point, the Muses will send them back to their home world.

What are the areas of the world called?
As an Inspiration, your character's home will be the Museum which is divided into the actual museum on the ground floor and apartment buildings on the two floors above. Around the Museum, Melete expands in circular roads, like ripples from a centre. Beyond Melete, there is only the desert where everything is stark sun and yellow sand.

Is there a way out?
Yes, but it is not for your character to find or choose. The Muses decide when they no longer have a need for your character and send them home accordingly. In their own world, your character will retain no memories of their stay in the Museum. As their player, it is of course up to you when you want to drop, but your character's disappearance will always IC-ly be the Muses' call. A dropped character will always be able to return to Mousai and regain their memories of their last stay at their player's discretion.

Powers.

What about my powers? Can I use them here?
Depends on how you define "powers". All characters brought here are brought with the specific aim of enriching the environment culturally, so they must possess some artistic talent, craft or ability. However, supernatural powers will be annulled upon arrival on Mousai, seeing how the Muses will be sure to prevent any chances or an uproar or disturbances of any kind.

Events.

Do I have to participate in events?
There is one event per week: Exhibitions on Saturdays. This event will be played out in a log thread started by one of the Muses in the log community and, in theory, participation in manadatory. The Muses expect their Inspirations to deliver artistically every single Saturday - however, if you feel it is IC for your character to refuse participation, you are welcome to have them sit out, just be aware that the Muses will respond to that kind of stubbornness with physical retribution, most likely flogging, starvation or isolation.

Every exhibition is defined by a theme, presented by one of the Muses. The mod will post a monthly calendar setting the theme for the upcoming four weeks, but players are more than welcome to post to the calendar with suggestions to later themes that they'd like to see their characters work with.
