Apr. 15th, 2015 12:48 am “Welcome to Mousai. You are an Inspiration to us all.” Mousai is a small planet in the constellation of Lyra. The Mousai people is immortal, but live in a world that is unable to produce beauty on its own, thus their leaders - the Muses - have begun summoning suitable inhabitants of other planets and dimensions (so-called Inspirations) to create art for them and perform to their enjoyment. Inspirations are accommodated at a venue simply known as the Museum, a large building built in a jigsaw puzzle style of new and old. On the inside, covered completely in a white stone one could easily mistake for marble, the ground floor branches into long corridors with arched entrances leading to square rooms, walls bare and ready for use. The first and second floors are divided into comfortably-sized apartments, each hallway sporting a common room complete with a grand collection of former residents' creations. Six out of the week’s seven days, the Museum is closed to the public. These six days, the Inspirations currently featured are given everything their artistic hearts could possibly desire, apart from a cure for their homesickness, in order to create something beautiful. On the seventh day, Saturday, the Museum doors open – and every single Inspiration expected to be showing in one of the white cubes, be it through literature or music, dance or theatre, design, painting or photography. Failing to create is a crime and offenders are sentenced to various corporal punishments, from isolation and temporary starvation to flogging for repeated offence. The Museum is located at the centre of Mousai’s capital, Melete. Beyond the borders of Melete, there is nothing but yellow sand which, when touched by the sun’s light, looks like water. There is neither flora nor fauna. The food supply for the Mousai people is grown and cultivated in large hothouses disturbing the cityscape that mainly consists of low, sloping walls in yellow brick. Inspirations do not stay permanently. No one knows the Muses' reasoning behind their timing, but when they feel that they have exhausted their guest’s creative capacities and find no further use of their presence, they are sent back home to their world of origin. Their legacy remains and one can never know when they will show up again, nevertheless – one by one, their creative contracts are terminated and new Inspirations brought in to fill the empty spaces. mod journal .
